Thorogood pulls out of Gibbston concert

The Orchestra  - starring former members of Electric Light Orchestra will replace Thorogood

There is disappointment for southern fans hoping to party to George Thorogood & The Destroyers at Gibbston in January, as the US blues-rock legends pull out of the summer tour.

Tour promoters Greenstone Entertainment say Thorogood and band ”will be unable to perform” because of a family illness.

Greenstone Entertainment boss Amanda Calvert says the tour will proceed as planned, with The Orchestra  Рstarring former members of Electric Light Orchestra Рnow joining headliner Alanis Morissette, and Colin Hay, of Men at Work fame.

A fourth act – Santa Barbara-born and now Nashville-based band Fairground Saints – has been added to the line-up.

Calvert says they sent their best wishes to Thorogood and his band and family, ”and completely understand that family must come first”.

The concerts will take place in Queenstown on January 20, Taupo on January 27 and Whitianga on January 28.
