Wakatipu residents wanting to grow their own herbs and vegetables can get a helping hand at SBS Bank from today.
The bank is repeating its Sow and Grow initiative for a second year, and plans to give away hundreds of packets of seeds at its Shotover Street branch.
SBS launched the 2012 giveaway at the Farmers Market at Remarkables Park last Saturday.
It’s being done in conjunction with Queenstown gardening expert Jacqui Stubbs whose book Raising Queenstown is also available at SBS for $25. Each sale sees $5 gifted to local schools and the Harvest Community Gardens, which oversees a community plot.
SBS Bank business development officer Honor Mathieson says last year’s inaugural giveaway seems to have sparked a green-fingered revival amongst residents, schools and other organisations.
“Our vision to create a sustainable, community-driven, hands-on growing experience everyone can embrace has certainly come to fruition.”
