They’re busy clicking to keep the cold away

These local have been busy clicking needles to knit colourful blankets for Wakatipu Home and Hospital.

Pictured (back, from left) are Noelene Kennedy, Wakatipu Home activities coordinator Donna Walsh, May Sanders, Jo Reid and (front, from left) Trudy Cotton, Beatrice Butson, Ellen Burrell and Helen Cameron – they’re part of a recently-formed knitting group at the home.

Organised by Kennedy and Reid, the women get together every Tuesday for two hours to make peggy squares and rows for blankets.

So far they’ve completed two bed covers and three knee rugs.

“We’re trying to make 30 blankets so everyone can have one at Wakatipu Home and Hospital, and after that we thought we could make some to give to young families with children,” Kennedy says.

The group uses wool gifted to them and would gratefully receive any donations of double knitting wool.
