A Queenstown lawyer’s establishing a golfing society as a way of supporting regional clubs in the Covid-19 era.
The Wombles, founded by Steve Brent, draws inspiration from the ’80s TV show of the same name, and aims to get players collectively supporting courses around the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago.
“The aim of the original Wombles TV show was to save the planet through doing good deeds,” Brent says.
“There are lots of courses in Central Otago that could use some help and I think we will have a lot of fun wombling together.”
He’s already managed to get 50 Wombles signed up.
Brent plans to organise at least one event a month from September to April, most likely on Saturdays.
Trips could go as far as Ranfurly or Roxburgh and may involve a bus ride.
