The titty bar drive-in

A man was so keen to get into a Queenstown strip bar he drove along a pedestrian footpath to park right at the front door – and was later done for possessing drugs.

Cops were called to The Cadillac Club in Church Lane after a 37-year-old from Te Aroha, near Hamilton, allegedly abandoned his vehicle on the walkway outside and tried to get in.

The incident happened at 11.25pm last Thursday.

“Basically, the chap was completely off his head,” sergeant Brian Cameron says.

“He was spoken to in relation to his eccentric parking skills then arrested for allegedly possessing cannabis.”

Triple trouble

Three teens in a vehicle were arrested when they were stopped in Hallenstein Street after allegedly causing trouble earlier.

“The offenders had allegedly been seen kicking things around in Athol St and one of them was spotted urinating in public,” Cameron says.

The driver, a 19-year-old female from Arrowtown, was charged with drink-driving offences and had her licence suspended for 28 days. Two male passengers, both 19, from Nelson and Alexandra, were charged with disorderly behaviour.

Oh deer

Police have spoken to four British men – who live in the Wakatipu – after they were allegedly hunting unlawfully near Glenorchy last Sunday.

“They were allegedly caught with a deer carcass and charges are pending,” Cameron says.

“Some people don’t seem to realise that Department of Conservation land is not a free-for-all when it comes to hunting and you also require the consent of the owner if the land is private.”

Cameron adds: “What these type of hunters should consider is if they are doing something illegal, on top of a monetary fine their vehicles, firearms and licences could be confiscated.”

Rum do for thirsty drunk

A British man caught wandering around Queenstown with a litre bottle of rum that still had an optic attached to it has been arrested for theft.

It’s believed the 18-year-old had swiped the sprits from Altitude bar at about 12.25am last Sunday.

“Perhaps he took ‘last orders’ a bit too literally,” Cameron observes.

“The big optic stuck in the neck of the bottle was a bit of a giveaway that it wasn’t his.”

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old German man was charged with theft after nicking a bottle of whisky from another local bar about midnight last Saturday.

Car vandals on prowl

Cops are on the lookout for vandals who trashed a car in Aspen Grove.

The vehicle’s front and rear windows were smashed and a wing mirror broken at about 1.30am last Friday.

“If anyone knows anything about this, we’d like to hear from them,” Cameron comments.

Street fisticuffs

Two men were arrested after they traded punches outside Skybar last Thursday.

A 28-year-old Aussie and a local male, 31, were charged with fighting.

“I’m afraid it was a case of the same old drunken downtown tango,” Cameron comments.

“It’s a popular dance that resort police have been fed-up with for years.”
