A teenager allegedly sped off from a police patrol stop in Queenstown in the early hours of this morning.
Officers stopped the 19-year-old man, who they believed had breached his bail, on Frankton Road at 2.30am.
He pulled over to the side of the road in his 1998 silver Toyota Altezza, but then is said to have sped off towards Cromwell.
The car was last seen in the Ladies Mile area.
Officers later found the car, with the driver inside, on Alec Robins Rd, near Lake Hayes, after a call from a member of the public.
The teenager was taken into custody and is likely to face further charges.
