Young Queenstown dancers shone at a recent Highland dancing competition, taking home a swag of placings.
Three dancers, Ella Badenhop, 11, Charlotte Hamilton, 9, and Taylah Miller, 7, competed in Lumsden last weekend.
Their teacher, Carleen McKenzie, says the girls placed in most events, at a competition day that had over 40 competitors.
“I felt very proud of all my girls, who really did Queenstown proud.”
McKenzie also recently celebrated a milestone of her own.
She was presented with her 20-year membership award at the NZ Academy of Highland and National Dancing in Christchurch.
months ago, starting with just one student.
She now has 11 on the books, and says Queenstown is being put on the map in the Highland dancing scene.
“I am hoping to bring up more dancers to compete if desired, complete exams or just dance for the love of dancing and performing.
“My longest-standing student, Charlotte, has had the privilege of dancing with our local pipe band a couple of times during the summer months, and I hope to add a few more dances to the mix, as well as doing displays.”
