Taking the Coronet Peak plunge before closing time

Coronet Peak ski patroller Liam Fletcher goes for an unexpected dip while trying out a pond skim last Saturday.

Fletcher was among staff and guests making the most of spring conditions at the ski area during its end-of-season Summer Daze event, which included the pond skim, mocktail race, sausage sizzle and free lemonade stand.

NZSki media coordinator Chris Davies says: “Most people who did the pond skim were able to get to the end but for some reason Liam didn’t make it that time.

“I think he came down too fast after he hit a jump before the water. He just lost a bit of control.”

Coronet Peak and The Remarkables are both scheduled to close this Sunday. The Remarkables plans to hold its fun Spring Carnival event on Saturday and Sunday.

To celebrate the end of season, NZSki is offering half-price lift tickets at both mountains.
