Suspect in focus on Queenstown cam

Is it bad timing or the world’s most stupid vandal?

Queenstown police want to speak to this man seen staring intently into a CCTV camera moments before it was vandalised.

The man spent almost a minute glaring at the digital eye on Shotover St in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It stopped working seconds after he disappeared from view.

“The cameras belong to the community and expensive damage resulted,” a Queenstown police Facebook post reads.

Police have since finger-printed the vandalised camera.

Four of the 17 cameras watching over the resort’s CBD have been vandalised since the system went live during Queenstown Winter Fest 2012 – with two of the vandals caught.

Queenstown police are in discussions with the district council about increasing the number of cameras – reports Mountain Scene this week.
