Surprise star returns for Christmas spectacular

A seasoned entertainer returns for a special guest spot in this year’s Shotover Jet Remarkable Christmas Spectacular.

Former Starry Eyed winner Anita Haira will perform with the laugh-a-second “Remarkable” Men’s Ballet at the one-off December 12 show at the Events Centre.

“I’m really looking forward to coming home and being part of the show – and seeing old faces,” Haira tells Mountain Scene from her Rotorua base.

She’s also looking forward to her guest appearance.

“I kind of got the idea from [organiser] Simon Green that I’ll be singing out front and the ballet guys will be behind me doing their thing.

“I guess I’ll have to try and not laugh at the boys,” Haira giggles.

In 2007, she took out the popular Starry Eyed contest as singer Amy Lee from US rock band Evanescence.

Locally, Haira has also appeared in The Rocky Horror Show and Hair but is best known for fronting band Uneek as lead singer for seven years.

This year’s Christmas Spectacular has a cast of 150 performers, Green says.

Groups include the Queenstown Community Choir, Screaming Banshees, Sequin Sisters and X-It Battle of the Musos winners The Fletcherz.

Featured soloists include Emily Burns, Molly Devine, Marc Hamilton, Sam Hillman and Andrea Cruickshank.
