Blocked from trading for several days, retailers in the lakefront Eichardt’s complex say they’ll have to sell plenty this month to recover lost income.
High-end fashion shops Country Road and Untouched World reopened on Tuesday and Witchery on Wednesday after landlord Skyline cut off public access by erecting its flood protection barrier last Thursday.
Country Road boss Jeff Hayes says his store lost at least $4000 each day, including wages.
He’s unsure if the store will ask Skyline – which recommended the barrier stay up for so long – for rent relief.
“We can always make up for it – we are sales consultants, after all.”
Witchery boss Carla Hale is unsure how much income her store lost. Their head office in Australia would sort out possible rent relief and wages were paid as normal – “that was my No 1 priority”.
