The clear days make a pleasant change from last week’s storm, but aren’t helping Coronet Peak’s chances of opening on time.
Ski area manager Hamish McCrostie estimates there’s a 50% chance the mountain will open this Saturday as planned.
South easterly winds and warmer temperatures have left a lack of snow on the slopes, despite the snowmaking machines on the mountain.
“We’ve got very thin snow cover on the lower 100 metres vertical of the mountain,” McCrostie says.
“People can rest assured we are doing everything we can to open, and if we do open on Saturday it will be limited skiing and riding on that lower 100 metres of the mountain.”
