An Invercargill man has a serious head injury after riding down a steep set of stairs in central Queenstown in a shopping trolley.
The 22-year-old, was rushed to Lakes District Hospital in Frankton at 10pm last Saturday before being transferred to hospital in Dunedin by road.
It is believed he was injured after a stunt went wrong at the Brecon Street stairs (right) beside the Sofitel Hotel.
Local St John boss Alana Reid confirms an ambulance was sent to the scene, where the man was found badly hurt.
“He went on to hospital in Dunedin later that night but my understanding is that he’s progressing,” Reid says.
People should be more careful about pulling pranks when out on the town, she warns.
“What might seem like a bright idea after a few bevvies might not be so much fun in the cold light of day because there can be serious consequences,” Reid adds.
