Queenstowners will learn how they can work as a volunteer at next year’s Rugby World Cup at two seminars next Wednesday.
The seminars – part of a month-long roadshow around the country – are from 12.30-1.30pm and 5.30-6.30pm at the Events Centre.
RWC 2011 volunteer manager Brendon Ward thinks about 50 to 100 locals will be needed though people can also apply from here to work in other centres.
In Queenstown, volunteers would be on hand when the resort hosts the Irish and English teams – September 2-7 and 19-21, respectively – and a European play-off winner from September 11-14.
Duties include driving and marshalling people at public training sessions.
Volunteers would also act as information officers during other stages of the six-week tournament, which climaxes in Auckland on October 23.
Prospective volunteers, who’d register online, would be interviewed and security-checked before being appointed early next year.
