Scout’s new digs

Old scouting hand Simon Brackstone (left) shows district scouts commissioner for Central Lakes Hec Browett the almost-completed Queenstown Scouts headquarters. Laying carpet will finish off the 126 sq m digs behind Fisherman’s Pier at Frankton Marina – it’s taken six months to build.

It’s been a decade since the group was first granted the site, Brackstone says. Browett travelled from Dunedin to inspect the wooden HQ and says it’s good to see a base for Queenstown Scouts – which has about 20 youth members.

The HQ, which is expected to open in March, can be used by other community groups for a fee.
