School survey on YouTube warts and all

Wakatipu High’s principal is tackling the school’s biggest issue – communication – head-on. Steve Hall (right) has decided to make results of a new survey available online via YouTube. The survey – of staff, students and parents – canvassed timetabling, uniforms and general topics.

From 367 respondents, including 171 parents and 134 students, it found the main strength of the school is teachers and staff while the biggest concern for parents was communication.

“The single biggest issue is communication so I thought, ok, time to get innovative here,” Hall says.

“Putting the results on YouTube seemed to be the most user-friendly way of getting the results out. I’m endeavouring to be really transparent. The results are there, warts and all.”
