Mountain Scene has punched well above its weight again – this time at a glittering international media bash in Australia.
At the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association (PANPA) awards in Sydney last Thursday, the newspaper scooped Best Sponsor-ship gong (below) in its category for its backing of the annual Thriller in the Chiller charity boxing night.
Mountain Scene has sponsored the popular event – held during Winter Festival – for the past two years. The fight night has raised more than $65,000 for local charity the Bruce Grant Youth Trust.
“It’s a tremendous accolade for the paper and also for an event that has captured the imagination of many Queenstowners,” Mountain Scene publisher Richard Thomas – who fought in the inaugural Thriller last year – says.
The PANPA award comes hot on the heels of Mountain Scene being crowned Community Newspaper of the Year at the national Canon Media Awards in Auckland in May.
