This week’s release of the new Otago University Greater Queenstown and Arrowtown Media Survey is a major milestone for Mountain Scene.
For the 25th year in a row, the independent survey names the Queenstown newsweekly as top-rating player in the resort’s highly competitive media marketplace.
Out of three daily newspapers, five weeklies, two Sundays and 12 radio stations, Mountain Scene takes top audience rating of 87 per cent of local residents aged 15 and over.
Out-of-town dailies and the Southland Times-owned Mirror have suffered major losses of readership and in-home penetration.
Otago Daily Times gets into only 22 per cent of Wakatipu homes and Southland Times just 18 per cent.
The Mirror reaches only 60 per cent of local homes and the new Queenstown Times just 3.5 per cent.
On the airwaves, ad-free National Radio leads by a wide margin after a substantial number of listeners deserted main commercial station Q92 The Breeze.
