Santa has come early for many Queenstown families – thanks to a big-hearted bunch of builders.
Hawkins Construction workers (clockwise from left above) Andrew Holmes, Mike Murray, Stu Nork, Steve Taw and Neil Gough last week delivered more than $2500 worth of food to Salvation Army’s Blair McKenzie (centre) for locals in need of some Christmas cheer.
It’s the second consecutive year Hawkins, main contractor for the troubled Kawarau Falls development, has dropped off food to the Sallies.
“When Kawarau Falls went into receivership the Salvation Army helped out some of the sub-contract staff,” senior quantity surveyor Gough says.
Sallies’ captain Kenneth Walker says the donation’s “fantastic” and will help about 55 needy families.
Others have also donated and Walker says “there’re a lot of generous people in Queenstown”.
