Sailors helped to shore at Lake Wakatipu

TWO sailors were helped by Queenstown jet boat firms after their catamaran capsized in Lake Wakatipu this afternoon (Sunday).

Kawarau Jet and Thunder Jet boats went to the aid of the two youngsters at the narrows near Kelvin Heights golf course shortly after 3pm.

The sailors had managed to right the vessel on their own and were towed to shore.

Thunder Jet owner and driver Neville Kelly says: “It was nothing major – a couple of guys in a small catamaran.

“They’d only been in the water about 20 minutes so weren’t even cold really. They’re all good.”

Harbourmaster Marty Black confirmed both youngsters were uninjured.

Black says: “It was a Hobie Cat in the narrows – all’s well. The jet boats went and assisted and everyone’s ashore and ok.”
