Rowing champs’ oar-some break at Lake Wakatipu

The first couple of New Zealand rowing relax in Queenstown after medalling at this month’s world champs.

Juliette Haigh won gold in the women’s pairs on Lake Karapiro, near Hamilton, while boyfriend Mahe Drysdale, bidding for a fifth world singles title, picked up silver after battling a back injury.

About 25 rowers from the champs, including Dutch, Canadian and British competitors plus Haigh’s pairs partner Rebecca Scown, have partied and undertaken adventure activities this week.

Kiwi rower Harriet Austin, however, dislocated her shoulder while luging.
