A multi-award-winning artist described as the rising super-star of New Zealand’s art world is exhibiting and painting in Queenstown.
Jasmine Middlebrook, 26, launches her One Verse, No Rhyme exhibition at Artbay Gallery tomorrow (Friday) and will be there as an artist in residence tomorrow and Saturday between noon and 3pm.
“The kaleidoscopic effect of her artworks is a true visual feast for the eye,” Artbay owner Pauline Bianchi says.
“She’s a skilled practitioner of fine art, using a clever combination of highly-skilled portraiture together with scenic and abstract elements, which make her work truly mesmerising.
“Middlebrook is the youngest artist I know whose work has been purchased by a public institution.”
Middlebrook, who lives in Taranaki, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Otago Polytechnic School of Art in 2010.
This year she won the Otago Art Society’s Edinburgh Realty Premier Art Award and in 2011 she won both the City of Dunedin and Taranaki Art Awards.
Middlebrook says of her Queenstown exhibition, which runs till November 14: “I think these new works highlight my fascination with the battle between imagination and reality and the boundaries where the two intersect.”
