Queenstown’s home-grown Hooligan is out for revenge.
The local pro wrestler, aka Marc Perry, is returning to the ring in front of a home crowd at this year’s WrestleFest.
The six-bout event, usually held around the same time as Winter Festival, has been brought forward to March after organisers struggled to book a venue during the busy season.
Perry, who wrestles under the name ‘Hooligan Marcus Kool’, says after back-to-back losses at the Queenstown event, he’ll be looking for a return to form.
“I kind of have to, otherwise I’ll be blacklisted from Queenstown,” he laughs.
Perry, one half of the team behind Southern Pro Wrestling NZ, still seems shocked the event’s heading for its fifth year in the resort.
“It’s crazy, it’s been really good for us.
“It’s really popular, people come along and have a really good time.”
The event usually sells out, but there are no plans to move it to somewhere bigger than the Memorial Centre.
“We love the venue and the atmosphere,” Perry says.
WrestleFest will be held at the Memorial Centre on March 16. Tickets are expected to go on sale soon.
