Destination Queenstown has gone back to the future to fill its new Winter Festival/events manager role.

Simon Green, who ran the past two Winter Festivals and four earlier festivals, takes over the new position today on a contracted basis.

“We’re delighted to have Simon back,” DQ boss Tony Everitt says.

“Over the past two years, in particular, festival’s really reached a new level in the marketing value it provides for Queenstown and DQ.

“We’ve asked Simon as part of his contract to assist in succession planning beyond the 2012 festival.”

In his new role Green will also be DQ’s contact point for enquiries about events.

“It’s an interim measure until we learn the outcomes of [Queenstown Lakes District Council’s] Shaping Our Future events forum,” Everitt says.

Green says he’ll also work on getting more value out of Winter Festival’s marketing opportunities.

Fittingly, Winter Festival’s opening night next June will coincide with Green’s 40th birthday.
