Queenstown has notched up record guest nights for both December and the whole of 2012.
According to the Commercial Accommodation Monitor, there were 264,049 visitor nights in December – 9.6 per cent up on the same month in 2011.
International guest nights were up 9.4 per cent, to 177,572, accounting for 67.2 per cent of all guest nights, while domestic guest nights were up 10.1 per cent.
Motels/apartments and hotels enjoyed 21.1 and 16.7 per cent increases, respectively.
Holiday park numbers were down, however.
Overall guest nights over the whole of 2012 were up 5.8 per cent, to 2,543,499, over 2011.
International guest nights rose 2.7 per cent and domestic guest nights 11.8 per cent.
“Achieving a record full year result in 2012 is satisfying,” Destination Queenstown chief executive Graham Budd says.
“Our challenge is to continue to build on that and gain growth across all sectors of the visitor economy in Queenstown.”
