Queenstown-based photographer Jackie Ranken (far right) joins celebrated women snappers (from left) Karen Gowlett-Holmes, Lyn Whitfield King, Kate Geraghty, Ruby Spowart and Bronwyn Kidd at an awards ceremony in Melbourne. Celebrating Women in Photography – an inaugural event on March 9 – honoured Ranken’s career alongside that of the other top Australian women photographers.

The co-director of the Queenstown Centre for Creative Photography – originally from rural New South Wales – scooped a prize for excellence in photography and contribution to the industry.

“Doing something a little bit different helped me stand out,” says Ranken, whose black and white aerial abstract work has won national and international awards.
