Queenstown world’s 4th friendliest place

Queenstown is the only New Zealand centre to make the Top 10 of an international “World’s Friendliest Cities” poll.

Readers of Conde Nast Traveler rank the resort fourth out of 20 most friendly cities.

Christchurch is No.11 and Auckland 16th.

Readers of the international travel magazine describe Queenstown as a “tranquil and peaceful town” with “an excellent outdoor vibe” and “down-to-earth, nice people”.

“The city itself is breathtaking and it has so many areas that are close by for scenery and adventure sports,” one respondent raved.

Readers thought Queenstown could get by on its “picturesque looks alone” but the resort “goes above and beyond with its hospitality”.

Our “mountains, lakes and vineyards” are “a feast for the eyes and palate”, another reader writes.

Over 46,000 readers responded to the magazine’s annual Readers Choice survey, voting for the ‘Friendliest and Unfriendliest Cities in the World’ as well as ranking other travel categories such as airlines and cruise companies.

Brazil’s Florianopolis was ranked first in the ‘Friendly’ list and Newark, New Jersey took the unenviable title of ‘Most Unfriendly” city.

Destination Queenstown boss Graham Budd is understandably delighted: “It’s a great acknowledgement that travellers from around the world feel Queenstown delivers such a fantastic experience on all fronts.”
