A Queenstown winemaker has picked up the pinot noir trophy at the International Wine & Spirit Competition awards in London.
Grant Taylor – who’s made wine for 33 years – won the Bouchard Finlayson Trophy for his Valli Gibbston Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010.
The award was announced last month but the awards banquet at the City of London Guildhall was last week.
This is the third time Taylor has won the trophy.
His other trophies were for the Gibbston Valley Reserve Pinot Noir 2000 and Bald Hills Pinot Noir 2005.
However this last award is his most satisfying, Taylor says.
“To be awarded a trophy for a third time is a great honour in itself, but it being Valli, my own label and especially the estate vineyard that’s being recognised makes it much more gratifying.”
