Queenstown is the number one destination for Kiwi travellers according to a survey by Travelbug.
The website – run by auction site Trade Me – polled 17,000 New Zealanders.
It is the second time Queenstown has been named both the domestic location Kiwis most enjoyed holidaying (16 per cent) and the place most people aspired to visit (18per cent).
Destination Queenstown CEO Graham Budd says: “This is a fantastic endorsement for Queenstown and will hopefully provide inspiration for Kiwis to consider Queenstown for their next holiday.
“I would really like to encourage those Kiwis who aspire to visit to take a closer look at how easy it is to turn their dreams into reality.
“Continually improving air access – more flights, more routes and bigger aircraft – is making it easier for people to come and enjoy the spectacular lake and alpine scenery and experiences Queenstown has to offer.
“It can be your international holiday experience at any time of year without leaving the country.”
Queenstown was particularly strong as an aspirational destination for North Islanders, especially Aucklanders and Wellingtonians.
Trade Me’s head of travel Daniel Bridges, says: “Queenstown is a place people dream of visiting, and love to return to.
“Its four distinct seasons make it a great place to visit at any time of year. And its diversity offers something for all ages and budgets regardless of whether you’re a seven-year-old snowboarder or a 77-year-old wine connoisseur.”
