Queenstown drivers can expect delays on local roads in coming weeks as upgrades are carried out.
Frankton’s Glenda Drive will be closed to traffic for 12 hours from 5pm today (Sunday), and the street will also be shut from 6pm till 5 am for the next four nights, with work finishing on Friday, February 4.
Other roading projects causing disruptions round the district will be a $1million Gorge Road upgrade starting next Monday (February 7).
“The road will be upgraded from Shotover Street to Industrial Place using a technique called ‘foamed bitumen stabilisation’,” Queenstown Lakes District Council project manager Steve Hewland says.
After Waitangi weekend, work on the Lake Esplanade upgrade – involving resurfacing, changes to stormwater drainage and a pedestrian crossing – will resume. It’s expected to be complete in April.
Meanwhile, the Queenstown to Kingston road was closed for several hours yesterday after a rock slip in the morning blocked the popular tourist route.
