A quiz night fundraiser for a local rescue helicopter service is hosted in Queenstown next Thursday.
The May 9 quiz for teams of four to six people kicks off the annual Westpac Chopper appeal.
Funds raised at the quiz night – being held at the Wakatipu Rugby Club rooms from 7pm – will go towards the local trust Lakes Air Rescue Trust.
It’ll include a silent auction on the night as well as great prizes donated by local businesses.
“This service is a truly life-saving operation, and everyone has a role in keeping New Zealand’s rescue helicopters in the skies,” Westpac Terrace Junction bank manager Adam Campbell says.
“It’s really important to play our part and raise awareness of this vital service, as well as raise much-needed funds.”
The country’s rescue helicopter services provide a dedicated 24-hour, seven-day-a-week service that makes a life or death difference for thousands of New Zealanders every year.
Last year the rescue helicopters completed more than 6,200 missions, from airlifting passengers off sinking boats to transporting hospital patients in need of urgent medical care.
“The helicopters are such a vital emergency service, but they depend on the support and generosity of our community to stay in the air,” Campbell says. “Every donation makes a big difference.”
The quiz night costs $20 a head with nibbles supplied.
