Queenstown Primary youngsters brought a classroom story to life today (Tuesday) with a real ride on a double-decker bus.
Year one pupils boarded the big red Double Decker Routemaster bus this afternoon as a treat from bus company owners.
Teacher Fiona Stephenson says the kids had been learning about buses as part of their literacy programme.
“We read a book called The Fun Bus…it’s about chaos on a bus. The kids then wrote to a real-life bus driver about what it’s like to be a driver and the company wrote back to each child individually, inviting them to go for a ride around town,” she says.
“They were just over the moon.”
Double Decker sales and communications manager Teresa Murphy says the company was only too happy to help.
“It’s one of those things we like doing for the community. It’s educational.”
