A luxury Queenstown Hill pad has sold for the highest price of any resort residential property in the past four years.

A six-bedroom, eight-bathroom house on Queenstown Hill has sold for $5.25 million, according to a January 2012 sales report by the local branch of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand.

New Zealand Sotheby’s International last year listed the house at $6.25m.

The 950sq m house, in The Peak gated estate, was built and designed in the mid-2000s by Australian Glen Carless.

In 2006 it was rated one of the world’s best homes by Australia’s Better Homes & Gardens TV show.

In 2009 Carless flicked the house to an Australian buyer for $3.75m, after apparently rejecting a $6.5m offer from the same person.

The sales volume and value level in the Wakatipu was up last month on January 2011.

There were 35 dwelling and seven section sales, compared to 30 dwellings and four sections sold 12 months earlier.

Two new houses on a Frankton Road lakefront section also sold for more than $2 million each.

The top-end sales took combined dwelling and section sale values to $29,810,160 last month, compared to $18,909,889 in January 2011.
