Queenstown man on case for two years’ running

A 2010 champion of the wacky Winter Festival suitcase race has successfully defended his title up Coronet Peak.

Nigel ‘Retro Lady’ Lloyd won first place in the men’s. Fellow Queenstowner Will ‘Lego Man’ Oswald – decked out in blue paint – was runner-up.

In the women’s, Kelly ‘Buns of Steel’ Zontine of Queenstown was victorious, followed by fellow Queenstown resident Hayley Stevenson.

Andy Fellows won the men’s Dash for Cash, while Carly Tyler took out the women’s. Hadyn Key won the veterans.

Hundreds of bemused skiers and boarders watch the entrants give their all in the mad-cap events.

Off the mountain and over at the muddy Kelvin Height’s course for the New Zealand Cyclocross Champs, Dan Warren took the honours followed by fellow Wellingtonian Alex Rivell.

Dunedin’s Ania McDonald won the women’s. Queenstowner Melissa Newell was second.
