Queenstown man arrested for drug importation

A United Kingdom national residing in Queenstown was charged yesterday with importing an estimated $14,000 worth of drugs into the resort.

Queenstown detective Matt Jones says the 28-year-old duty manager at a CDB bar is indictably charged with alleged offending including importation of LSD, ecstasy and Class C drugs, and drug dealing.

The arrest comes as a result of a joint three month investigation by Queenstown police and New Zealand Customs which intercepted ecstasy pills destined for the defendant.

He faces alleged charges of importing LSD, three charges of importing ecstasy, attempting to import ecstasy, importing a class C controlled drug, offering to supply LSD and allegedly selling a representative charge of selling a class C controlled drug between January 1 and July 3.

“The approximate street value of the illicit drugs intercepted and obtained by the defendant will be in excess of $14,000,” Jones says.

Jones says police believe the drugs were destined and sold to the local market. He will appear in Queenstown District Court on July 16.
