A Kiwi music legend is recruiting kids from the Wakatipu to help belt out a classic to launch Queenstown’s Winter Festival.
Dave Dobbyn and youngsters from local schools will sing Slice of Heaven at the opening of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival on June 21 to an expected audience of 10,000-plus.
Remarkables Primary music teacher Lisa Moore is project coordinator, drawing children from five schools.
“The students were told today about the opportunity and were over the moon,” Moore says.
“We’re delighted to have the opportunity to sing with a legend as well as showcase our talented children.”
The ad hoc choir – from Remarkables Primary, Queenstown Primary, St Joseph’s, Arrowtown and KingsView – will take to the Earnslaw Park stage before the 7pm fireworks display over Queenstown Bay.
Multi-platinum-selling Dobbyn will later return to the stage to perform his greatest hits
