Queenstown heads off the Coromandel as New Zealanders’ favourite domestic holiday spot.
In a Herald-DigiPoll released by Auckland’s New Zealand Herald newspaper today, Queenstown is the preferred destination of 25.7 per cent of those polled.
The Coromandel, which topped the same poll last summer, is second on 22.3 per cent, the Bay of Islands third on 20.7 per cent and Nelson fourth at 13 per cent.
The Herald quotes Destination Queenstown boss Graham Budd saying the resort has become more affordable over the past two years.
Partly he attributes that to falling airfares from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Budd also says visitors find Queenstown’s range of accommodation and activities very affordable.
DQ had focused on reinforcing the resort’s range of activities.
“While skiing and adventure – bungy and jetboating – is well understood, we have also focused on things like walking, biking, golf and wine and dining experiences,” Budd told the Herald.
