Queenstown gal saddles up for charity

A Queenstowner plans biking to Mount Maunganui in 21 days as a fundraiser in honour of her primary school friend.

Alana Martin says she aims to raise $5000 during the ride – she’s already raised the first $1000.

Proceeds will go to Breath4CF, an organisation supporting cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening condition affecting both lung function and the digestive system.

Martin is pedalling to the Mount to catch up with childhood friend Kristie Purton, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of three.

The Queenstowner’s marathon ride begins up at Fernhill restaurant Vknow on November 1 at about 8am.

“It sounds like there might be a bit of a gathering at Vknow,” Martin chuckles.

“If anyone wants to join me on any part of the ride, they’re more than welcome.”

The Breath4CF group supports cystic fibrosis victims by giving out grants for gym memberships and sports equipment so sufferers can stay physically active and combat their condition.

Meanwhile, to mark Cystic Fibrosis Association of New Zealand’s Bubbles Week, charity yoga classes are running at Studio Sangha tomorrow at 6pm and at Alpine Health & Fitness on Sunday 9.30am, Wednesday 6.35pm and Thursday 10.30am.
