Queenstown flood fears recede along with lake level

Lake Wakatipu flood fears – like the water level – have receded.

The flood-prone lake, which washes into downtown Queenstown Bay, had triggered the first flood level warning after heavy rain in the New Year.

Queenstown Lakes District Council communications boss Meaghan Miller says it’s business as usual for the Lakes District.

“The rain has now stopped and river flows are reducing. Council is keeping a watching brief but no further action is planned at this time.”
