A Queenstown map for people with disabilities has taken national honours.
The local Disabilities Resource Centre’s ‘Queenstown & Districts Accessibility Map’ has been awarded the annual Innovation Award from the New Zealand Federation of Disability Information Centres.
Delighted local resource centre boss Leah Farrell says the award trophy is a hand-blown glass plaque in the shape of a koru.
Farrell says the advertising-funded map, launched in March, had an initial print run of 3000 copies, of which about 1000 are left.
The map shows all accessible carparks and toilets in Queenstown, Frankton and Arrowtown.
The local streets, footpaths and walking tracks are also colour-coded according to ease of access for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
The map is displayed at information centres, council offices, libraries, the Citizens Advice Bureau and the airport, Farrell says.
The resource centre is a non-profit organisation which hires or sells a large range of equipment and aids for people with disabilities from its Queenstown outlet based in the Gorge Road Retail Centre.
