Leading Queenstown councillor Cath Gilmour (right) is the sole local hope for Central Lakes Trust elections – her 13 rivals are all from Central Otago and Wanaka.
The do-good CLT doles out grants to good causes regionally, after snapping up $158 million of power consumer capital when Central Otago Electric Power Board was dismembered in 2000.
CLT also wholly owns Pioneer Generation, which unsuccessfully fought to dam the pristine Nevis River near Queenstown.
Gilmour says with Queenstown-based CLT chair Sir Eoin Edgar standing down, it’s vital have a Wakatipu resident on CLT’s board.
If elected, Gilmour will supplement her council income – the six CLT trustees currently share $83,000 annually.
Voting papers must be in by noon Friday, November 22.
