Queenstown’s been cooking when it comes to celebrity chefs.
MasterChef New Zealand judge Simon Gault offered a sneak peek inside his new restaurant opening next month, whilst fellow judge Josh Emett played host to visiting Indonesian celebrity chef Farah Quinn at his Rata eatery downtown on Tuesday night.
Gault was in the resort meeting new kitchen staff while his Jervois Steak House Queenstown is completed. The 100-seat restaurant, in the Sofitel, is due to open in the first week of December. Included in the fit-out is a wall made of bricks salvaged from the Christchurch earthquakes.
“It’s going to be something Queens-town can be proud of,” Gault says
Meanwhile, social media star Quinn – dubbed ‘the sexy chef’ – is back after first visiting in May to promote Queenstown to her country’s burgeoning middle-class. This time Quinn knocked off AJ Hackett’s Kawarau Bridge bungy and planned to skydive yesterday – she also gave a thumbs up to Emett’s cuisine, saying Indonesians will enjoy Kiwi favourites like pavlova.
“Indonesians love shopping but being in this type of environment, just checking out the scenery, I think everyone will fall in love with Queenstown,” Quinn says.
