A drug bust was among the 34 police arrests of New Year’s Eve revellers in Queenstown last night.
A Christchurch man was allegedly found to have more than 100g of cannabis on him plus a “considerable amount” of cash – in various denominations – senior constable Chris Blackford says.
“It would appear he’s come here for the purpose of making some money from New Year’s Eve revellers.”
The man has been charged with possession of cannabis for supply and bailed to a Christchurch address till he appears in Queenstown District Court on January 7.
Most of the 34 arrests police made were for disorderly and offensive behaviour, Blackford says.
“Eight people were required to be in the cells because they drank themselves into a stupor and were unable to look after themselves.”
Details of drink-driving arrests by the rural drink-drive squad are not yet available.
Queenstown police station boss senior sergeant John Fookes said last night that overall there was a great mood around the resort with the influx of visitors generally well-behaved.
