A Queenstown bouncer needed hospital treatment after allegedly being attacked by a patron who tried to gouge his eye out.

The doorman at World Bar, Shotover Street, had asked a man to leave the premises shortly after midnight on Saturday.

“He’s grabbed the bouncer around the throat, pushed him onto the ground and tried to gouge his eyes,” alleges acting sergeant Tracey Haggart.

A 34-year-old Queenstown man was arrested for assault. The doorman was treated at Lakes District Hospital.

“The extent of the injuries is unknown at this stage,” Haggarty says.

“Assault charges are likely to follow for the 34-year-old man.”

Queenstown police are also investigating an alleged assault at New Orleans bar in Arrowtown on Sunday night.

A 36-year-old patron received hospital treatment for a knee injury after being allegedly dragged outside and assaulted.

“Apparently a punch was thrown in the bar before the man was dragged outside,” Haggart says. “Enquiries are continuing.”
