Pornography case coming up

A 53-YEAR-OLD Wanaka man is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court next month, facing 21 charges of possessing objectionable material.

The charges, laid under the Films Videos and Publications Classification Act 1993, are dated between April 1, 2012 and May 12, 2013 and relate to the possession of sexual images of boys under the age of 16, without lawful authority or excuse, knowing or having reason to believe the publication was objectionable.

The man was arrested by Queenstown police earlier this month after hundreds of objectionable images of children were allegedly found on his computer.

Police allege the laptop had been left at a Queenstown address where the man had been staying and the householder turned it on to identify its owner, allegedly discovering the pornography.
