Pool tourney to help injured Brit

Friends of a Queenstown-based Englishman who broke his back tree-climbing are holding a pool tournament
fundraiser.

Jamie Salter, 26, accidentally fell from a tree near the Queenstown Gardens on January 16 and was choppered to Christchurch’s Burwood Spinal Unit, where he’s been since.

His parents have flown from England to Christchurch to support him. Three of his Queenstown friends have also relocated.

Local friend Sam Connoly says Salter’s lost all feeling and movement below his neck but is “mentally very positive as we all are and his determination to recover is inspiring”.

He hopes $10,000 can be raised for him and his family at a pool tournament at Queenstown’s Harrys Pool Bar on February 28.

“Every cent raised will be contributing to a fund to help Jamie and his family so he can get the very best care and treatment now, in these crucial early stages, and further down the line.”

The fundraiser will include an afternoon pool tournament and other games and competitions along with a
raffle.

Connoly says businesses have offered great raffle prizes. He’s asking other businesses keen to offer prizes to contact him at: Samconnely@outlook.com
