Plucky Noelene flies

She must be Queenstown’s oldest daredevil.

Noelene Kennedy, 88, has notched up another feat by flying in the resort’s new skydiving simulator.

The Abbeyfield Wakatipu resident, pictured, inset, with resthome boss Ali Beaumont, is now iFLY Queens-town’s oldest flyer. She beat the previous (male) record-holder by five months.

The great-granny has parapented off Coronet Peak, jetboated and raced round Invercargill’s Teretonga racetrack in a Jag but says she never wanted to skydive out of a plane – “it’s too cold up there, I’d rather do it in the warmth”.

She says she was frightened when she entered the flight chamber last Saturday, “then you get used to it, you just float around – it’s an amazing feeling”.
