Big-hearted Wellington students cycling the length of the country as a polio fundraiser have continued their mission in Queenstown.
Xaver Hausner and Oliver Macindoe are nearing the end of their 3360km journey from Cape Reinga to Bluff.
They are raising money for Rotary International’s Polio Plus vaccination cause as they go.
Local Rotarians John Thompson and Pat Burke joined Hausner, 24, and Macindoe, 23, for a cycle over the Crown Range and in to Queenstown via Arrowtown last Friday.
The Victoria University students have already raised $41,000 during their novel 54-day trip but hope to raise more cash plus awareness.
“The goal of Rotary is to eradicate polio completely,” Hausner explains.
Thompson, who hosted the pair, says Polio Plus is a cause that Rotary’s “been chipping away at for years”.
“But this [particular] effort is a biggie.”
