A Whangarei-based counsellor and parenting instructor is running a series of workshops for
parents, carers and teachers in Queenstown from Thursday.

The workshops, presented by The Peaceful Parent Institute co-founder Genevieve Simperingham, are being managed by Queenstown natural health practitioner Sunny Sky, who tells Mountain Scene she’s seeing a ‘‘huge need’’ in the community for more emotional support for children, parents, and, most particularly, teachers, at the moment.

The first workshop, a free event at Shotover Primary School this Thursday night that’s aimed at parents, is titled ‘How to Talk So Kids Will Listen’.

The others are being held at Sherwood.

An all-day professional development workshop on April 10, to be presented by Simperingham and Sky, is aimed at teachers and carers who work with children or young people.

There are two sessions the next day: a morning session called ‘Parenting Tweens & Teens’, and an afternoon one titled ‘Dealing with Tears & Tantrums’.
