Painter of men


Rex Turnbull’s painting Counting Minutes – Ngati Mamoe (right) is hanging in Milford Galleries on Earl St till June 3.

The Sydney-based Kiwi has painted a series of men against NZ landscapes for his new exhibition, entitled Tane O Te Whenua – Men Of The Land.

Of Ngati Tuwharetoa and Ngati Kahungunu descent, Turnbull is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts as well as a fashion judge. He’s also spent the past six years publishing trans-Tasman design magazine Lino in Australia.
